My name is John Rata and I am a freelance photographer specialising in live performance and events.

I love capturing the energy, spontaneity, and emotion of people in the moment. Whether it’s actors mid-monologue, speakers commanding a room of hundreds, or colleagues celebrating together, I create beautiful images from experiences of the now. Ones that not only let people relive those moments, but make others go: "Woah, I wish I’d been there!"​​​​​​​​​​

I’ve photographed people and crowds in all kinds of spaces. From black box theatres and main stages to large-scale corporate venues and outdoor festivals. I know how to read a room, anticipate a moment, and capture it without disruption.
